President shares latest updates regarding nationwide development projects

  • Work of the new Passenger Terminal at the Velana International Airport will begin on 27 July and conclude by 2022
  • India has passed the proposal by the Maldives government which includes economic, social and infrastructural developments to Addu

    President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has shared with the public, latest updates of proceeding work for several infrastructural development projects that are to begin in the near future.

    During a press conference held on Thursday, Solih assured that the development project of the new Passenger Terminal at the Velana International Airport will begin on 27 July and conclude by 2022.

    Further, he also assured that several health centers in many regions nationwide will be developed into hospitals with upgraded amenities, in turn paving an efficient way for island communities to access health care without having to travel to capital city Malé.

    Regarding the development of Addu City into an urban center, Solih stated that the government of India has passed the proposal by the Maldives government which includes economic, social and infrastructural developments to the city under India’s Line of Trade Assistance.

    He assured that work is expected to begin in these projects, very soon.

    Sharing updates on several other development plans, Solih stated that the ring road development project in Fuvahmulah City is proceeding swiftly.

    As such, while 13 kilometers of the road are to be developed, the government is working to bring a swift solution to the electricity, waste management and flooding issues in the city.

    Further, Solih stated that water and sewerage systems will be established in 29 islands across the nations within the next three years. He added that all islands will have proper and running water and sewerage systems by the time his five-year tenure comes to an end.

    During the press, Solih had assured the public that all of the pledges he had included for the benefit of the country will be completed within his time in office.
